Area Guide — Show Low & the White Mountains
Bluff Retreat sits in the Show Low Bluff neighborhood, in the cool pines of Arizona’s White Mountains. This is the country our guests come for — lake mornings, easy trails, small-town events, and big skies. A few favorites, all an easy outing from the house:
Fool Hollow Lake
Just minutes away, Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area is the neighborhood’s backyard: fishing from the shore or a dock, kayaking and paddle boats, a swim beach, picnic ramadas and lakeside trails.
Trails & the Mogollon Rim country
The Bluff Trail starts right in the neighborhood, and the White Mountains trail system runs for miles beyond it — ponderosa forest, meadows, and Rim-country views. In fall, the aspens turn gold.
Ski & summer at Sunrise Park Resort
A day trip from the house: skiing and snowboarding in winter; gondola rides, mountain biking and cool high-country air in summer.
Small-town events
Show Low does community well — FreedomFest around the Fourth of July, the Renaissance Faire, farmers markets in season, and the Deuce of Clubs Drop on New Year’s Eve, the town’s own ball-drop tradition.
Petrified Forest day trip
Petrified Forest National Park and the Painted Desert make an unforgettable day trip — go for the morning light, be back for dinner in your own kitchen.
In town
Restaurants, groceries, coffee and supplies are a short drive away in Show Low, with Pinetop-Lakeside just up the road.
